4 Must Haves to Ensure Your Guests Will Have Fun at Your Wedding

When you’re planning your wedding, you of course start to think about all of the things that you’ve ever wanted for your big day.

Your wedding dress, the bridal party line up, your first dance song, the wedding cake flavor, and maybe even the favors you offer to send home to people.

(Speaking of wedding favors, here’s a list of unique wedding favors that your guests will actually use!)

And while all of those things are incredibly important, what’s also important to take into consideration are ways for your GUESTS to have fun at your wedding too!

Yes, it’s 100% YOUR day and you should make decisions that are ultimately based off of what YOU want as a couple, but a wedding is also an event for your guests and if you want to ensure that they have fun and don’t just sit in their seats the whole time, it takes some thought and intention.

It’s for that reason in this blog post I’ll be guiding you through 4 must-haves to include at your wedding to ensure that your guests leave thinking that was one of the BEST weddings they’ve ever been to!

How To Ensure Your Guests Will Have Fun At Your Wedding

1. Great Music and Entertainment 🎶

First up, and probably the most obvious, is that you include great music and other forms of entertainment at your wedding.

Whether it's a live band, a DJ, or a mix of both, having great music that caters to various tastes will keep your guests dancing and enjoying themselves all night long. The last thing you want is for the reception to begin and no one hits the dance floor…

To make sure that guests get out of their seats and start moving and grooving, make sure your music playlist is a mix that appeals to ALL generations! 💃🏻🕺🏻

Some top songs to include on your wedding reception playlist that are ALWAYS a hit include:

  • Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond

  • Cupid Shuffle by Cupid

  • I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) by Whitney Houston

  • Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon

  • Don't Stop Believin' by Journey

In addition to good music, you may also want to consider other forms of entertainment, such as photo booths, corn hole and other lawn games, live performers (such as magicians or acrobats), cocktail tasting stations, etc.

The sky is truly the limit with how you choose to entertain your guests, but I promise the more thought you put into this, the more fun your guests will have!

2. Delicious Food and Drinks 🍽️

If there’s one thing that guests want at a wedding, it’s GOOD food! Weddings are naturally a pretty long event, so you want to make sure that your guests aren’t getting hungry (or hangry for that matter) throughout the day.

This is why I always encourage couples to opt for light appetizers to be served during cocktail hour, a full course meal be served at the reception, and even offer a fun late night snack before your send off so that guests don’t feel the urge to hit up Waffle House or the Taco Bell drive thru afterwards.

3. Comfortable Seating and Ambiance 🪑

In addition to the entertainment and food, making your guests feel comfortable is a huge must!

This is especially true for those having outdoor weddings. If your wedding is being hosted in the warmer months, consider any shade that you may need to provide, fans, sunglasses, etc. so that your guests can fully enjoy your ceremony.

Regardless if your wedding is inside or outside, you’ll also want to take into consideration the seating options for your guests. While it’s true that the more basic ceremony and reception chairs are often the most cost effective, sometimes it's worth it to splurge if you think that your guests will be uncomfortable throughout.

Additionally, think about the overall ambiance of your big day, including lighting, decor, and temperature control, to ensure that the overall environment is conducive to a fun event for all involved!

4. Thoughtful Guest Experience 💛

Lastly, when planning your wedding, pay attention to the details that enhance your guests' experience, such as welcome bags at hotels or lodging if applicable, a well-organized timeline that helps the day run smoothly, clear signage so they know where to go, and convenient transportation options if needed.

While all of these things can feel like extra work, they’re all actually an incredibly important part of making your guests feel like you’re thankful for them to be in attendance and you want them to enjoy their time!

This is where working with a wedding planner for your big day can come in handy. There are a ton of things that need your attention when planning your wedding and an extra set of eyes and hands can ensure that you don’t miss anything along the way.
