Wedding Day Emergency Kit: A Checklist

As a wedding planner, I haven’t seen it *all* when it comes to possible wedding day emergencies, but I have seen a LOT.

It never fails that after the hair stylist leaves someone’s updo starts to fall. Or a fake eyelash won’t stay put. Or a bridesmaid dress isn’t cooperating. Or a heel keeps sinking into the grass causing great potential for someone falling down the aisle.

As a bride, you shouldn’t have to worry about or anticipate these things. Typically it’s your maid of honor’s job to make sure she’s prepped with an emergency kit that can come to the rescue for these potential “emergencies.”

In the grand scheme of things, no they aren’t that big of a deal. But in the moment, it can feel like a catastrophe.

That’s why I’m such a big fan of wedding day emergency kits and I try to keep a few things on hand for these potential scenarios, but at the end of the day it’s smart for you to be prepped too!

If you’re a bride reading this and you don’t want to add one more responsibility to your plate, do yourself a favor and send it to your mom, sister, maid of honor, or other trusted bridesmaid to handle it for you.

The point is for SOMEONE to have a stash of “might need” items when said emergency sets in.

And if you’re not sure what to include in your wedding day emergency kit? I’ve got you!

What To Include In Your Wedding Day Emergency Kit and Why

  • Tissues – for when the tears inevitably start to roll

  • Sewing kit with needles and thread – to fix any dress or outfit mishap

  • Safety pins – again, to fix any outfit catastrophes

  • Scissors – you never really know what you might need these for

  • Stain remover wipes or pen – girls gotta eat on wedding day and we all know that we drop food the instant we’re wearing white or something fancy

  • Lint roller – mainly for the groom and groomsmen

  • Fashion tape – a wardrobe lifesaver

  • Deodorant – enough said

  • Breath mints or spray – please don’t start chewing gum right before you walk down the aisle. Grab a breath mint and call it a day!

  • Bobby pins and hair ties – updo isn’t staying up? Bobby pins to the rescue

  • Hairbrush or comb – because you just never know

  • Hairspray – for good measure

  • Compact mirror – to make sure that the professional makeup is still doing it’s thing and to ensure nothing is stuck in your teeth right before you make your grand entrance

  • Tweezers – again, just trust me

  • Nail file and nail glue – because we can’t have a nail missing on a day like today

  • Band-Aids – for those pesky blisters that no one has time for

  • Ibuprofen or aspirin – a long day running on little to no sleep often calls for some meds

  • Antacid – we don’t have time for heartburn or tummy troubles today, ok?!

  • Allergy medicine – if it’s an outside wedding in the spring… let’s caution on the safe side

  • Hand sanitizer – to keep things clean

  • Sunscreen – again, if it’s an outside wedding in the middle of summer, no one wants a scorching red forehead

  • Chapstick or clear lip gloss – nice to have for some touch ups

  • Makeup remover wipes – in case there’s a makeup malfunction

  • Q Tips – can truly be used for anything

  • Eye drops – today is not the day for dry eyes

  • Dental floss or picks – for safe measure after breakfast and lunch

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste – in case someone forgot theirs

  • Disposable razors – again, in case someone forgot theirs

  • Lotion or moisturizer – for any dry skin that needs some doctoring

  • Extra earring backs – it never fails that someone loses an earring back

  • Compact umbrella – in case of unanticipated rain

  • Super glue – the fixer of all things

  • Mini first aid kit – in addition to band aids, you never know if someone will need gauze, neosporin, etc.

  • Pen – so that the couple can sign the marriage license

  • Extra phone charger – because you know someone will ask for one

  • Snacks – to calm the pre-game jitters

  • Bottled water – because hydration is key

  • Shoe insoles – for the girlie who chose the most uncomfortable shoes for the day

  • Oil blotting sheets – helps a ton on hot days

  • Eyelash glue – for the falsies that can’t be trusted

  • Sample spritzer of perfume – in case someone wants an extra touch of smell good

  • Steamer – because bridesmaid dresses never fail to get wrinkled

  • Solemate heel protectors – these come in extra handy if the ceremony is taking place on grass

  • Clear nail polish – an amazing hack to stop snags in their tracks

Though this list might feel lengthy, my motto is that you really can’t be TOO prepared!

It’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

And no, you don’t have to buy the most expensive version of all these things. Hit up your local dollar store and you’re sure to find almost everything on this list at a fraction of the cost!

Once you’ve gathered all of your items, throw all of it in an extra cosmetic bag and call it a day.
